Bow Wow: Indian Police on Indian men

Well actually I was very lucky in police matters when it was needed. As I did not face all the hurdles with the police that I get to hear from victims over the helpline and in meetings. But finally I saw how they treat Indian husbands and Indian Male by the very virtue of their being one.

I witnessed two cases where the attitude of police was clearly not in favor of the male. One of them being matrimonial which will be discussed when the right time will come, but as of now I would discuss a case that is not a matrimonial but a dispute between 2 genders. This time it’s the neighbors.

34 year old Shyam would not have taken a drastic step to lodge a complain to the society against his neighbor who must be 40 something if he was not aware how vulnerable he is to the chalak Indian women are when they make a ruckus for attention seeking and pressurizing. It was a matter of clearing the dump that belonged to Shyams Neighbors and was piled up at the doorstep of Shyams flat.

Shyams request was turned down very arrogantly and an embarrassing scene was created as his lady neighbor came rushing on him while arguing, thus increasing the chances of a physical contact, to which Shyam resisted and avoided any physical contact while arguing. But later she called it a physical assault on her by Shyam. And gave a statement to the police that she was slapped by Shyam and as usual there was no witness required for this.

Shyam was called on Sunday by the police. Being Sunday we all decided to have our meeting at the Nalasopara Police Station on Shyam’s request. On meeting Shyam the police took off with a high pitch voice. And this is what I witnessed with 9 other SIF Members.

I felt that police was nothing less than a lawyer for the lady, and later it was worst we all felt that he was like a dog with Neck Belt chained to the lady, so loyal and unconditional to her. It went like this.

Police: You are Shyam?
Shyam: Yes

now without asking for explanation the police barked Judge's verdict and tried to threaten....
Police: Bow Wow Bow Wow Tumhare khilaf FIR Hoga woof arf.
Shyam: ?????…….Karo!!!! (Police ka popat, as he expected Shyam to pee in his pants, unaware that he is a trained SIFian and more over a master of procedures due to past experience and ignorance at womens cell)
Police: Bow Wow Tumne ek lady ko Thappad Mara Grrrr woof .
Shyam: Wo to uska statement hai, aap ko mera bhi statement lena padega jo mein dene aaya hu
Police: Statement nahi lunga, BOW WOW FIR Hoga BOW WOW BOW WOW; (Pointing to us) yeh log kaun society wale hai? BOW WOW BOW WOW (Trying pressure tactics on us)

And we all stood with our chest wide and SIF TShirts.

Shyam: Sirji, hum log ka yeh hi kaam hai weekends ko
Police: Kya?
Shyam: Harassed husbands ko counseling karna including their family members, that is siblings and parents. Hum ko procedures ka idea hai. Main apna statement laaya hu, aap pls is par received ka stamp lagakar ek copy mujhe return kijiye.
I spoke: Sirji yeh hi to problem hai, aap bhi kuch nahi kar sakte ho siva apne haathon false statistics ko manufacture hota dekh, wo bhi helplessly. Because a complainant is a lady. But RTI ke figures chaukadene wale hai, supreme court ne accept kiya ke 98% cases law misuse ka shikar hai.
Police: (no more bow wow, now a cow) ok ok haan phir humko to 498a lagana hi padta hai….(pui pui pui…..) and makes a face.
I Spoke: Sir aaj bhi waisa hi case hai na, aurat apne aurat hone ka najaiz faida nahi uthae to behtar hai.
Police: (Jumping to this case) Nahi nahi Hum log to khali bithake baat karenge aamne saamne. Sort our karange. (pui pui pui) (F.I.R PHUSSSSS)
Then shyam gave a briefing of SIF. (The Police more than understood and went and sat at the corner because he knew he was wrong).

Later the complainant lady reached and she tried to cry and what not and was surprised to see that police was quite sobered down than her expectations as police knew that they was dealing with someone who was already harassed and cannot be taken on ride. Really sad she could not witness the BOW WOW of police on Shyam.

The police tried to make it a warning case and asked Shyam to sign it but being aware that police are under some pressure (Maybe bribe or upar se call) he realized the trap coz signing would have given the lady a chance to lodge a 2nd false complaint once again against him post so called accepted warning and then coz more trouble. They bullied that they were registering a 504 but Shyam said even he is entitled to be heard. The police tried to bully him that the matter will be referred to the court if Shyam is not agreeing to sign and Shyam agreed to fight it out in court rather than signing on paper. And insisted that his statement has to be accepted. Police accepted the statement with a lot of embarrassment of having being exposed, the lady watching with a surprise. Police started explaining the surprised lady the procedures as it must have been different version to her now rather than the standard sidha-kar-denge attitude.

The false complainant couple was clueless as they thought vardi’s pressure and lady’s tears would do the trick once again. But sad enough for them, panga SIF ke saath tha. Finally no FIR was lodged and the lady has removed all the garbage outside Shyam’s house.

I tell you all, Shyam (now one of the strongest counselors with SIF) if was not SIF Member he would have been a victim of a false statistics once again. In meetings we introduce each other with our favorite statements to the new victims, that initially when Shyam was harassed by police he had come to me (SIF) for counseling with loose motions but now is capable of giving anyone loose motions who would bully him on false grounds. SIF Zindabad.

Coming back to the point is, this reflects a lot on how police manipulate and make money from innocent victims esp males and how vulnerable are Indian Males. And moreover police’s attitude of being bought by a devil woman for whom they would be no less than a lawyer or a Barking Pet Dog. The same happens in a false 498a, 406 too. The husband faces nuisance of wife, Police and then State who fights in favor of the non compoundable false case against the tax paying husband with no holds barred under the carpet.

Anyways they manufacture statistics and the strong byproduct is a self made SIF Counselor. A grave that they are digging with a misuse of the shield.

4 years ago SIF reported a bug.

They were typical guys next door who wanted wife, who was a girl next door, their family did not bother about her financial well being but were bothered about her nature and attitude in life.

Alas! Things did not go smooth with them. And they were victims of one sided Indian law(s). They were all from the hardworking ethical strata of society. With no criminal background of the family a normal common man and aspiring wagle’s of the nation.

Post Marriage, suddenly to their surprise they found police at their doorstep on a Friday who actually came for puch-tach (enquiry) on a (False dowry and mental torture) complain by the bahu of the family. Police landed up arresting the recently wedded innocent Angry Young Mr.Kaalia’s and his parents and siblings. They realized that they were victims of someones myopic lust for money. But decided that they will not quit.

They saw their family came crashing down as getting a bail and running helter skelter was not a part of their wishlist. These guys had certain things in common, All from the modern corporate environment either self employed or in job and an over ambitious stubborn and ambitious life partner. They individually discovered their helplessness in front of the law and they decided to do a root cause analysis. These also involved a bunch of affected NRI and their families back home.

Each one individually found out a bug in the Indian system. And it was the same bug that led to the arrests of innocent parents and siblings on false charges, a bug that created false statistics. A bug that caused blackmailing and false identification of a surpanakha as sita. This bug was a blind misuse of 498a and related packaged sections.

They reported the bug to the friends, relatives, neighbors, to the system they found being mocked at and some were even advised to accept the circumstances and bow down to the demands of the angry stubborn and control freak, misled bride.

They realized that merely reporting a bug is not working as there are babus, judges and media pretending sleep they got in to plan B and that is Fixing the bug. And rest is history. One bug led to discovery of another.

498a affected hubbies started spreading their experiences on the net and this gave rise to a new breed of pre 498a hubbies who were now knowing that they may be charged falsely, now they knew that there are people like them. They uploaded their concerns and got in to a group of 40 odd on a yahoogroup and correctly called it as saveindianfamily, exchanging of mails started. It was 4 years ago on 10th March 2005 that saveindianfamily yahoogroup got started. They grew to 100 odd and started to blog, then came meetings, helpline at Bangalore Mumbai and delhi were launched.

They started fighthing the public ignominy together and shouted JAGO INDIA, Mutual support was a new biproduct for the berated husbands. 498a started to get quashed in higher stratas of the courts, 406 misuse was discovered, the satyagrahis got aggressive in their own forms. They were once being labeled as clowns but were later contacted by the same people who got victimized. RTI came in to picture and quite a bit of damage was undone. The real statistics now was visible that was under the carpet. Supreme Courts got in to its one liners of calling the 498a misuse as “Legal Terrorism” as they discovered that 98% of the cases were arguably motivated. Media now could not ignore SIF. Husband beating was now believed, Abhagi maa’s were aired on television. Sting operations on cunning wives were taken false medical certificate rackets got busted.

The first press conference at Mumbai saw 50+ victims but not many press reporters, later media realized the fact and told the world “our side of the story”. From Koreans to Brits the international media were the first one to notice us and as usual the desi media with a lot of political correctness at times followed the suit. Then came the historic Delhi dharna and press conferences across the nation at various levels, womens wing now came of age and then came the Mens day celebrations.

SIF achieved milestones with successful withdrawal of Ads that encouraged the misuse of law, as the corporates realized the new bugs in the DV Act that we were reporting. International media’s male bashing when questioned by us with help of RTI got on back foot on authentication of the statistics on their side of the story. Media had to change its style of politically correct presentation.

Countless activists got in to bringing about this change missing out anyone would be unfair here hence I would be generic to address all.

Now we are Upholding the Crpc 41-1a amendment, we support the senior citizen bill, our fight will continue till 497, 498a and DV becomes spouse centric, DV becomes bug(S) free, 406, alimony law, joint custody etc will be made more practical. Dowry prohibition is implemented severly on the girls side too and punishment suo moto on false cases. The suicide law becomes spouse centric. Women law is not just wife centric and there is also a law for the protection of men and his relatives against cunning wife.

And we will one day see the formation of Ministry for Men. SIF, You have come a long way baby and you have a long but a way to go.

Lets us continue reporting the bugs in the Indian law and be a part of solutions too. We have done it and we will do it.

If not us then Who? If not now then when.
